Giuseppe Dari-Mattiacci is professor of law and economics at the University of Amsterdam, co-director of the Amsterdam Center for Law and Economics and research fellow at the Tinbergen Institute and the Center for the Study of European Contract Law

After studying law in Rome and law & economics in Utrecht, he conducted research as a Marie Curie doctoral fellow at Hamburg University and as a post-doctoral fellow at Gent University and Nancy 2 University. In 2006 he has been awarded the VIDI research grant by the NWO (the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research) for a study on the evolution of lawmaking in ancient Rome.

He is specialized in the economic analysis of fundamental areas of the law, such as tort, contract, property and litigation. His current research interests concern the evolution of law and legal institutions, ancient law, and slavery.
